2 large baking apples, peeled, cored, and sliced (4 cups)
1/3 cup old-fashion rolled oats
1/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 cup margarine
1 cup lite whipped topping
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Spray an 8x8-inch
round cake pan with nonstick cooking spray.
Place the apples in the bottom of the prepared pan; they
should almost fill the pan.
In a medium bowl, stir together the oats, sugar, flour,
cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cut in the margarine with a pastry
blender or 2 knives until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs,
2-3 minutes. Spoon this mixture on top of the apples. bake
until the top is crispy and lightly browned, 30 to 35 minutes.
Top each serving with 2 tablespoons whipped topping.
Note: cinnamon, may be increased if nutmeg is not available.
