1 cup unsalted butter
1-3/4 cups packed brown sugar
2 large eggs, room temperature
1 large egg yolk, room temperature
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
1. Place butter in a small heavy saucepan. Cook over medium heat until golden brown, 5 to 7 minutes; cool slightly.
2. Beat brown sugar and eggs in a large bowl until blended. Beat in browned butter slowly; then vanilla.
3. Combine the flour, salt, baking soda and baking powder; gradually add to brown sugar mixture and mix well. Stir in chocolate chips.
4. Drop by quarter cupfuls 2 in. apart onto parchment-lined baking sheets. Bake at 350° until golden brown, 13 to 15 minutes. Remove to wire racks to cool.
