butter, to taste, melted
1 hamburger bun
2 (4-ounce) ground beef patties
2 slices of American cheese
sandwich pickle, optional, sliced, for serving
1/3 cup onion, grilled and diced
1 Brush the melted butter on the inside surfaces of the hamburger bun.
2 On a pan or griddle over low heat, place each half of the butter-covered bun to toast, about 1 to 2 minutes on each side.
3 While the bun is toasting, flatten each beef patty to about 1/4-inch thickness.
4 Place the cheese in the middle of one patty.
5 Cover the cheese-topped patty with the remaining patty.
6 Push the patties together and pinch the edges, ensuring there are no holes for the cheese to seep through.
7 On the same pan, over medium-high heat, cook the meat until it is cooked to your preference and cheesy juices start spilling out, about 5 to 10 minutes per side.
8 Add the pickles to the bottom of the bun, followed by the onions.
9 Top the onions with the cooked burger and the top bun.
10 Serve, being careful as the cheese inside is very hot.
Time: 20 minutes
Yield: 1 serving
You'll have just as much fun eating a Juicy Lucy as you will saying its name! Get this: two juicy (hence the name!) ground beef patties are pinched together with not one, but two pieces of American cheese in between. So with every single bite, you get to experience ooey-gooey cheese melting from within the meat. The loaded patty is placed on a toasted, buttery bun and layered with a sour sandwich pickle and some sweet grilled onions to create the perfect sweet and savory combo. You'll have to use a little caution when eating your Juicy Lucy for a couple of reasons: one being the cheese can get really hot, but mainly because you're sure to get hooked on its exciting flavors!
