Basic Beer Can Chhicken

Ingredients:

12 ounce cann of beer
3 to 4 lb. chicken
1 tblsp. Vegetable oil
2 tblsp. Rub for chicken
2 cups wood chips , soaked for at least 1 hour

Method:

Wash chicken thoroughly and pat dry
Charcoal grill: Make a bed of coals. When hot place soaked wood chips on coals. This will make smoke
For gas grill: Heat up grill and place wood chips in heatproof pan. Place on grill under rack. This will add the smoke flavor and act as a drip pan.
Make large holes in top of the can of beer. Pour out ¾ cups beer and set aside.
Rub inside and out of the chicken with oil then sprinkle with the rub.
Place the large opening of the chicken onto the beer can. Place on grill using the legs of the chicken as part of the tripod and the beer can as the third part of the tripod.
Grill for about 1 ½ to 1 ¾ hours or until the chicken reaches a temp of about 180 degrees F.
