Ingredients:

¼ cup butter
4 large tart apples - peeled, cored and sliced 1/4 inch thick
½ cup cold water
2 teaspoons cornstarch
½ cup brown sugar
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

Method:

Step 1 Melt butter in a large skillet or saucepan over medium heat; add apples and cook, stirring constantly, until almost tender, 6 to 7 minutes.
Step 2 Mix water and cornstarch together in a small bowl until cornstarch is dissolved; pour over apples. Stir in brown sugar and cinnamon. Bring to a boil for 2 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and serve warm.

Get soft, cooked apples by sautéing them in butter with brown sugar and cinnamon until tender and delicious. The syrup from the apples is great on homemade waffles. You may add raisins to the sauce if desired.
This staple recipe is more than just a sweet treat (although delicious with ice cream or pound cake). Try adding these cinnamon-sugary tender apples to oatmeal or take a savory approach and serve them alongside a pork chop or ham steak.
