Surprise Cookies

Ingredients:

1 cup butter
1 and 1 half cups powdered sugar
2 tablespoons vanilla
tiny bit of food coloring
3 cups flour
1 eighth teaspoon salt
Fillings: maraschino cherries, chocolate pieces, nuts
Icing:
1 cup sifted powdered sugar
2 and 1 half tablespoons cream
1 teaspoon vanilla
tiny bit of red, green, or yellow food coloring
Topping: colored sugars

Method:

Mix--with a mixer--butter, sugar, vanilla and food coloring.
Blend flour and salt in thoroughly.
If dough is dry, add about 1 to 2 tablespoons cream.
Heat oven to 350 degrees.
For each cookie, wrap 1 tablespoon dough around a filling and seal.
Bake 1 inch apart on ungreased baking sheet.
12 to 15 minutes, or until set, but not brown.
Cool.
Dip tops of cookies in icing.
Decorate with colored sugars.

Helpful Hints:

Makes about 40 cookies.
